Last week at our homeschool co-op we had a Fun Day where we were to dress up as a book character. The kids and I had a great time figuring out who we would be and what we needed to complete our costumes. Take a look to see what characters we dressed up as. What book character would you be?
Blake was the easiest decision by far. He LOVES Super Grover, and he already had a Super Grover costume. The book we paired him with technically only has Grover in it (not Super Grover) but we went with it. One of his favorite books is The Monster at the End of This Book, so it was the perfect fit.
Junior from Dave Ramsey
It took me awhile to come up with an idea for Cole. I just could not think of someone that he could be and that we could easily pull off. One weekend afternoon I walked into our family room, and Jeff was reading to the boys. He was reading one of Dave Ramsey’s kid’s story books. Lightbulb moment. That’s when I knew — Junior! Cole would make the perfect Junior, and it was a simple enough costume. Juinor wears the same outfit in all his books, and we only needed to do some minor drawing to make his outfit complete! I wrote about how we use Junior’s Adventures books in my post about character resources.
My husband asked, “Is everyone going to know who Fancy Nancy is?” Yes, dear, everyone who has had a girl will know who Fancy Nancy is! My girls have adored Fancy Nancy forever! From her picture books to early readers, to Nancy Clancy – Fancy Nancy will always be a favorite. This was another costume that we already had everything for. Including matching purple pumps and purse from my prom dress bin! Alyssa nailed Fancy Nancy!
Alice in Wonderland
Hayley already had a few ideas of what she wanted to be, and since she already dressed up as Mary Ingalls for Decade Day, we went with Alice in Wonderland. She was also cast as Alice in her Drama class’ play of Alice in the Wonderland, so it made it an easy pick. Unfortunately, we had nothing blue! We went to the local thrift store and found a blue shirt, blue skirt and also the white apron! Score!
Everyone, to the bus! After searching Pinterest for some ideas, I landed on that Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus would be a good character. I picked up the blue dress at the thrift store, and I already owned a posterboard set of the solar system. I was unsure of how best to adhere the cutouts onto the dress, so I did the obvious — I asked Facebook. It was an overwhelming response for spray adhesive. I had never heard of this magical stuff, but let me tell you, this spray adhesive is no joke. It worked perfectly!
What Book Character Would You Be?
The kids and I had so much fun dressing up as our book characters. But what I want to know is, what book character would you be? So many good, fun options out there. Leave a comment and let me know!
