Summer Snapshot #9

We are getting close to the end of July, and that is making me sad.  I can’t believe we only have one more month of summer vacation left before we start up school again.  At the same time, it is hard for me to believe that I am already on summer Snapshot #9. Time is going too fast!

On a happy note, we had another great week last week.  All the kids were in swim lessons last week, and they all did an excellent job.  Cole moved up a level, and both girls learned how to dive.  Blake continued to progress as well.  They have advanced so much this summer in their swimming abilities.

Nelson the Animal Guy

We attended a program at our local library and saw one of our favorite shows – Nelson the Animal Guy.  We have seen him a few times before, and he never disappoints.  The animals he brings are always amazing.  The kids love getting to see the animals up close and even pet them.  Nelson even made the alligator pat Cole on the head, which he loved.

Miles for Mankind

The girls also had a big day on Saturday.  It was race day.  They both registered for the Miles for Mankind race.  Hayley registered for her first 5K (3.1 miles), and Alyssa registered for the 1 Mile race. They had been running all summer in preparation for it, and they both did a fantastic job!!  Hayley ran the 5K in just over 34 minutes and came in 4th place for girls 18 and younger.  The three girls that came in ahead of her were all older and experienced runners. (Not that I googled their names or anything and discovered that they ran track and field.) So proud of her for putting in the hard work and getting it done!!  Alyssa also did an outstanding job and was awarded the 1st place prize for girls 12 and younger. Technically one other girl in that age bracket finished before her, but she was the overall female winner of the whole 1 Mile race that they awarded Alyssa, the 1st place award for that age group.  She blew us away running a 8:39 mile!! We couldn’t be more proud of them!!

Although we had a fun filled week, we didn’t accomplish many summer bucket list items.  In fact, come Sunday we hadn’t done any – so we ended the weekend with all the kids sleeping in the same room. {SBL #16}

I hope you all are enjoying every bit of summer because unfortunately, it is flying by way too fast!!
