Summer Snapshot

The weather in Michigan is finally starting to feel like Summer. I for one could not be happier. We have started attacking our Summer Bucket List, and I am {hopefully} going to be posting a weekly snapshot showing you a look back at our week.

A few weeks ago we received baby caterpillars in the mail. It is one of the recommended activities to do with the Kindergarten curriculum that Cole is using. We watched the caterpillars grow and then transform into chrysalides. The end of last week all the beautiful butterflies emerged. It is an amazing experience to watch happen, especially when you can do it in your home. This past week we released the butterflies in our backyard. We were sad to see them go, but knowing we were able to have a part in their metamorphosis process, and watching them fly all around brought joy to all of the kids.

We also went to the Toledo Zoo this past week with friends. It was an insanely gorgeous day, and we spent about 5 hours there. The first trip to the zoo after a long winter is always the best. Seeing the animals is a new and exciting experience the beginning of every summer. There was a baby polar bear that was very entertaining. He was jumping around in the water, playing and having a grand time. We enjoyed the monkeys who were swinging, the elephants who were guzzling down some water, and the giraffes and zebras who were grazing in the open fields. The Toledo Zoo also has a fantastic Nature’s Neighborhood that has an outdoor play fort and things for the kids to do inside as well. All the kids were able to pet a guinea pig and see some other smaller animals up close.

We are still finishing up school, so we are not in full summer mode yet, but we are taking the time to appreciate the beautiful weather and slow down some. I would love to hear what you did this past week. Please share with me in the comments.

Also, I am linking up with my friend Dana over at her Summer Saturdays link up.
