The Joy of Falling Free

Falling Free Book

The last book I finished reading (which was another book that was not on my 2016 Reading List) was Falling Free – Rescued From The Life I Always Wanted by Shannan Martin. I had not previously heard of Shannan when a friend had shared on Facebook that she was taking applications for her launch team. It is a known fact that I have a slight addiction to launch teams, so I of course applied. I had faith that I would enjoy it since it was being recommended by a well-trusted friend.

Little did I know that this book was going to be one of my most challenging reads, and I mean that in the best possible way. If you are not familiar with Shannan’s story, this book is a must-read, and even if you are familiar, you still want to read it. I can best describe it as Jen Hatmaker’s Interrupted meets Francis Chan’s Crazy Love.

Shannan shares her (and her husband’s story) about how God rescued them from the life they always wanted. Shannan and her husband were living in their dream farmhouse when God called them to move to a house that was more inner city and where they could more easily love their neighbor. There is so much more to their story, but what resonated with me throughout reading it was the joy that radiated from Shannan.

Falling Free

There were so many sentences and even paragraphs that just stuck to me. This book took me longer than usual to read a book because I could never read a whole chapter straight through without having to put it down and mentally chew on Shannan’s words. Falling Free is not a book to pick up and gulp down in one day if you ask me. It is something that you linger over, taking a sip here and a sip there. Enjoy it, ponder it, and let God speak to you through it.

Here are a couple of the quotes that made me stop and think:

“We so often say we believe that there is no safer place than the center of God’s will, but we refuse to believe he would ever lead us to places of brokenness or danger.” {Shannan Martin, Falling Free}

“I want to be captivated. Awestruck. Gobsmacked. Filled with the wonder of the living God. I want to hold so loosely to my life, my plans, and my long-held beliefs that they can all be boxed up in minutes, freeing me to follow where ever Jesus leads.” {Shannan Martin, Falling Free}

I am so thankful that I was able to be a part of this launch team. Being able to get to know Shannan some by her interactions and videos within our group, was icing on the cake. Shannan did Facebook Live videos in our launch team group once a week while she was having lunch and she would just share some of her life with us and answer any of our silly or serious questions. It is so refreshing when an author takes the time to invest in their launch teams. It makes the process more enjoyable and makes you feel much more appreciated for what we do as a launcher.

Falling Free released TODAY!! If you haven’t ordered yourself a copy yet, what are you waiting for? Shannan is the real deal and God’s story for her life is worth the read!

Lastly, Shannan was recently on Jamie Ivey’s Happy Half Hour podcast, so check that out too!
