One of the ways that helps me in being intentional about Living the Full Life is making time with my family a priority. Family Time is something that I long for and something that energizes me and gives me life.
Sundays are our scheduled Family Time. Yes, you read that correctly – scheduled. Every Sunday afternoon on our calendar is a time slot that says family activity. We are not always sure what that will entail, but like most things – if it is important to you and you want to make sure it happens, we put it on the calendar. It is a recurring event, and the kids know that Sundays are a time for us to spend together. We do afternoon at the park, play games, go to the pool in the summer, watching football, and just yesterday we did a first for all of us – we went to Grand Rapids for Art Prize.
We had a wonderful day walking around the city and checking out all the amazing art. It really is a one of a kind experience that I would highly recommend. However, we did more than appreciate art – we enjoyed the time we were with each other. When you make your family a priority and are intentional with the time you have with them, your time together will be a refreshment.
Now, it doesn’t always work perfectly that we will all have Sunday afternoons available, Hello Life. However, we adjust as needed. If we cannot do something in the afternoon, it might be something as simple as a carpet picnic for dinner or an episode or two of Little House while all snuggled under a blanket together.
Family Time Final Thoughts
If you can’t remember the last time, you and your family did something that you were intentional about doing – stop now and block some time out on your calendar to do something. It doesn’t need to be big or extravagant – it just needs to be focused.
