Constant Learning

We are getting close to the end of #write31days, and I am excited with all that is yet to come.  Today, I want to talk to you about constant learning. One of the points on our Family Purpose Statement is that we would foster constant learning and growth. So? What does that look like for me? One word: Books.

I have not always been one who would choose reading as a hobby, but now that I do, I don’t see me ever giving it up. I regret not falling in love with books earlier in life. Reading books is the most active way that I pursue constant learning. There are a couple of other things I do, like learning how to keep a blog and following all the regulations – which I’m pretty sure should require a Doctorate, but reading is my favorite.

Most of my reading is Christian non-fiction; however a couple of times a year I will pick up a fiction book. I enjoy reading them, but the problem is I have a hard time putting them down. I neglect all other responsibilities until the book is done.

Here is a quick review of the last couple books I have read:

Her Mother’s Hope: I read this on vacation, and although not as captivating as Redeeming Love, I did find myself engrossed in the story. It covers a lifespan of Marta who starts a child, grows, then becomes a mother and grandmother. The only thing with this is that it is a two-part series. Her Daughters Dream continues the story. I have already purchased it because I obviously need to know how it ends and it is cued up to be my holiday read.

Uninvited: Lysa TerKeurst hit another home run with this one. So good. I love her stories and how she shares her vulnerabilities. I think we have all struggled with feeling left out at one point or another, and Uninvited shows us how to deal with these feelings.

Becoming Mom Strong: Heidi is a sweetheart. I have had the privilege of hearing her speak at homeschool conferences and I adore her. She is the mom to seven and also a grandmom. This book will encourage you every turn of the page in your mothering journey!

When Breath Becomes Air: Whoa. This was recommended to me as a good audio and man; it did not disappoint. This is more of a biography, but fascinating. Truly fascinating!

Final Thoughts on Constant Learning

What are you doing to learn new things? Maybe you went back to college, or perhaps you enjoy reading like I do. However it looks in your life, living a life of constant learning is important.
