Summer Must Haves

Are you ready for summer? I know I am! Today, I am sharing My 5 Favorite Must Haves for a Care-Free Summer. There is just something about summer that gives me an image of standing with my hands in the air and just enjoying the season and living a little care-free. So, here are my MUSTS for living summer to the fullest.

Summer Menu
I love that as the seasons change, the food we also eat changes. Even though I am not a fan of winter, I enjoy a warm cup of cocoa and a hearty soup – things that I do not usually indulge in when it’s summertime. Here are my favorite treats in the summer:

BAI Molokai Coconut beverage. Seriously, I think I am drinking a Pina Colada. With only five calories per serving and only 1 gram of sugar – this is my summer splurge beverage. And yes, I buy it by the case from Amazon. It’s that good. (Bonus, Amazon has a coupon right now too!!)
Sea Salt Caramel Truffle Ice Cream

Now something with a lot more sugar is this Sea Salt Caramel Truffle ice cream. It is Private Selection brand from my Kroger store. My sincerest apologies if you do not have this available to you, because it is the BEST ice cream I have ever had. Hands. Down. So, if you do have a Kroger – please pick this up on your next trip. You will not regret it, and you may even curse me for it.
Watermelon and Feta Salad

Another favorite food I enjoy in the summer is salads. I don’t eat nearly as many salads in the cooler months. Two years ago, I read Shauna Niequist’s book, Bread and Wine. In it, she shares many of her favorite recipes. One is for a Watermelon and Feta Salad. Now, if you are anything like me, you may have curled your nose at that title. I did. I thought, how in the world can Arugula, Watermelon, Feta and a few other things possibly taste good together? Well, they do. They taste REALLY good together. It has become a favorite summer salad, and I eat it multiple times a week in the summer.

Put Your Best Face Forward
One thing that summer lends itself to is sunny days – all the praise hands!! However, with that, we need to be careful of too much sun exposure, and we need to protect our skin. A friend recently shared with me the awesome beauty product called BB Cream. I have tried a few different kinds, and my favorite is Physicians Formula Super BB Cream. This cream is an all-in-one moisturizer, SPF, and foundation. One of the reasons I like this is because it has an SPF of 30. I can put this on and know my face is protected. Plus, most of the time I honestly put this on, and a little mascara, and my face is finished. Simple.

Summer Reading Program
Every library I know of encourages a Summer Reading program for the kids. I think the same should go for adults. Summer is the time for me to take a break from teaching the kids and enjoy reading some books for pleasure. I have to be honest, and let you know I have not finished One. Single. Book. from my 2016 books to read list. Pathetic. I have read a few others, because, why not buy more books and read those instead of the ones I already have? I make perfect sense. Last weekend I finished reading, Four Letter Words by Krista Wilbur. So good. I plan to write a separate review for that soon. And I may have also started reading another Francine Rivers book. I will resume my roles of wife and mother in approximately one week.

Not Your Mama’s Pocketbook
I was trying to think of a saying for purse or bag, and the only thing that came to mind was the old rhyme “stole your mama’s pocketbook.” Ha! Oh well. Does anyone even call it a pocketbook anymore? Anyway, you need the right bag for summer, and I love my new Brynnda bag from better life BAGS. It has an adjustable leather strap and is the perfect cross-body bag. I can throw it on and head out for a day with the kids and not worry about it keep falling off my arm. Love it.

Road Trip
Nothing quite says Care-Free Summer like a road trip. Although we did take the kids skiing this past winter, winter is not the season of road trips and vacations. (Unless you’re heading to the Caribbean!) Summertime is the time for my family to pack it up and hit the road. We usually head to New Jersey and Texas every summer to visit our families. My kids have been doing these long drives since birth and are quite good at it. I pack a bag of books and activities for them, we play the license plate game every year, and we try and find cool parks or landmarks to see along the way. There is something about being away from your home and the responsibilities that go with it that just screams, FREEDOM! {said in my best Braveheart voice}

So, there you have it. There are My 5 Favorite Must Haves For A Care Free Summer. What is it that you look forward to in summer? What says, “Care-Free” to you when you think of summer? I am linking up today with Mrs. Disciple where today’s prompt was “your choice.”  I’m excited to see what others will be writing about.

    Why is it called “BB” cream?

    I look forward to days committed to nothing! A day with nothing on the calendar.
